20 Questions

Q&A with me.

1. Plans for the day...
Restock my fridge and cupboard for the week. Skype date. Study for an exam. Blog!
2. What was your most joyful moment as a child?
For my sixth birthday, my grand mom took me to an aviary to adopt a bird. We immediately spotted a white budgie with a black striped head and blue back. She was picking on the other birds bigger than her. My grand mom said, "get that one! She is beautiful and feisty!" And so I did.
3. Where is the place that you want visit the most?
Scandinavia has been on my heart for quite sometime. Though I do enjoy it, I don't particularly like to visit places. I like to stay long term in a place, really get to know the culture and people.
4. If you could change one thing about yourself?
I wish I was more articulate.
5. What are your favourite television shows?
What Would You Do, Saturday Night Live, Gilmore Girls, Pushing Daisies, Bashful smile...Glee.
6. What are you scared of losing?
I am scared of losing my memory. I am good at remembering little details, people's names and what someone said. I value my memory dearly and I'm not sure I could cope without it.
7. What does the last text message you received say?
"I am really glad to have you in my life too. This is just the beginning of our friendship. "
8. What did you love the most about (2012)?
The summer was amazing. Being with family. Dinner on the patio. Long chats in the evening. Laughter over nice gestures gone wrong. Possum scrambling underneath my window at night. Long walks. Adventure time. Live music in coffee shops. Meeting my second cousin. Road trips. Holding grand mom's hands just a few more times, for now. Hearing God's voice. New beginnings.
9. Which actor/actress would you like to play you in a movie?
Anna Sophia Robb as Opal in Because of Winn- Dixie. I read the book several times when I was a child. I always fantasised playing the part of Opal, if a film ever came out. It did and sadly I was not the star. I was so disappointed I didn't watch it until years later.
10. What do you do when boredom strikes?
I cook. I clean. I dance. I take something apart and put it back together.
11. List four things close to you...
A loaf of bread, text book, to do list, and a kettle.

12. What type of person do you dislike?
I don't dislike people, I dislike their attitudes. Like when someone is so unhappy with themselves they take it out on other people by being unfriendly or just plain rude.
13. What is your dream in life?
To start an eating disorder clinic. Most treatment centers focus solely on weight gain. I truly believe this is a highly ineffective method. Statistics on relapse rates support my belief. I want to open a clinic that uses a holistic approach to treat sufferers. The goal of treatment should be to help individuals regain life.

14. If you had one wish, what would it be?
I would like to establish my answer #13 in places that has no treatment centers. There are only a few in Europe currently. Next to none in Mid-Western America. Absolutely none in NIC or LED countries. And yes there these countries have significant numbers of sufferers as well.
15. When you were small, what did you want to be when you were "grown up"?
I thought it would be cool to own a pet store because I loved animals so much. Then I wanted to be a singer. Then I wanted to be a doctor. Now I don't know what I want to "be", but I know what I want to do with my life.
16. What has been the craziest thing you have ever done?
When I was in junior school (11-13yo), I would use a spoon to catapult food across the cafeteria. I would fill up the spoon, bend it back and watch the food soar in the air and hit some unsuspecting student in the head or land in the middle of another table. I was thoroughly amused by remarks and expressions of, "what the heck?", as they would look around for the origin of the object. This ritual was repeated multiple times a week. I never feared getting caught because no one would have ever suspected me to be the culprit.
17. Do you have any talents?
I am good at analyzing and reading people. I pick up on subtle ques and body language.

18. If your life is a song...
Price to be Paid by Tim Hassall. The song talks about what it's like to live in a new, developing and fascinating city. My second choice would be Garrett Hedlund's cover of Silver Wings. I feel like I am the one with silver wings...slowly fading out of sight.
19. Who are your inspirations in life?
I have so many! Pretty much everyone is an inspiration to me in one way or another. But if I had to narrow it down I would say these three men; my grandpa, my dad and my brother. They all have incredible life stories of resilience, forgiveness and love.
20. If you were to change one part of your life, what would it be?
Nothing. I am really happy with how everything has turned out thus far in my life. I have so much to be grateful for. Everyone has difficult times, experiences depression/illness/grief or feels lonely. How we choose to view and cope with these events makes all the difference. I once met someone who openly shared his life story the first time we met. While he was in high school his parents divorced. At the same time several of his loved ones tragically passed away. After a few months of feeling really low he decided, "A turn of events don't need to be labeled as good or bad, there just a change in life plans."
